Ford Australia
Ford had a special requirement for timeclock recording devices outside their obvious use. Being a motor vehicle manufacturer with over 5000 employees, Ford needed to know 10 minutes after people were expected to start work who was actually present that day.
The timeclocks were positioned in the appropriate areas within the factory and as workers clocked in their movements were reported live to a custom written system on the Ford mainframe. This enabled employee allocations to be made based on the number of employees attending work that day and what was scheduled for that day's production.
Not only does the system provide live up to date attendance information for payroll it also provides accurate personal resources within all departments.
The key for Ford during this project was to interface into their existing mainframe, so the communications software running on the timeclock had to be custom written to suit the mainframe.
